Honoring stories, preserving images
sharing experiences

Meaningful Memories

Meaningful Memories helps people to preserve and share their pictures and stories, as albums or photobooks with text, and recorded oral histories. A treasured digital, and/or print, photobook or slideshow will result from scanning in prints and curating digital photos, tagging them with names/places/dates/events, and adding written or audio stories where desired.

Our scanning services safely and quickly scan old prints, with a first cut at autocorrecting the photos—saving you money! For delicate and fragile images or old photo albums, I work with proven vendors to keep costs down. I also have techniques to organize and curate those thousands of digital photos we all have now.

We can also “artifact” physical mementos and items that might not have high monetary value – but immense meaning - with photographs and stories.

Oral histories can hold special meaning over the years. I think everyone especially treasures listening to the family (or organization) stories of our elders. Recording these stories honors their lives and their roles. The holidays can be a good time for you to do that – or let me know, and I can join your older family member in person and record their stories, perhaps over a photobook, in writing and/or verbal recordings.

Meaningful Memories is grounded in respect for ethics and relationships, the value of time and resources, and both the joys and bittersweetness of recalling memories. Let me know how I can help you preserve your family’s or organization’s images and stories.

About

About Me

Kimberly Davis founded her small business, Meaningful Memories, as she – along with so many of her friends and family – faced the life phase challenges of downsizing, or “rightsizing,” as some prefer to view it. There is so. Much. Physical stuff to move, and decisions to make, that there is little time left for small precious things like photos. And that’s just the old print photos – the need to organize our digital photos is enormous, too!

And then there's the "stuff." We all know how important it is that the stories behind our “stuff” be preserved. And for those whose stories are held by others, then sitting patiently with people and safeguarding their irreplaceable memories, in writing or by audio, is a way to honor their lives and our relationships. Those stories may go along with photos, or items of sentimental value, or – just life stories, from small, funny family anecdotes to witnesses to history.

Kimberly’s love for all kinds of people led her to believe she could serve well as a Life Story Professional. After a career in environmental management, complemented by work in publishing and public outreach, Kimberly remains fascinated by science, engineering, and nature, as well as history and the arts. Kimberly hopes to connect with people of all backgrounds, and help them tell their stories to be appreciated by generations to come.

Born in Texas, Kimberly began her professional career in New York City;  she and her late husband moved to Virginia and had their daughter, now "grown and flown." Kimberly is active in civic activities, nature and the environment, and satisfying her endless curiosity.

Kimberly brings to her work an ethic of kindness, the seeking of quality, and respect for all.

Artifacting

Downsizing/rightsizing? What to do with “stuff” that has enormous sentimental value is an enormous challenge. Artifacting is the process of photographing the items and ensuring their meaning is preserved in a story.

Oral Histories

Do you love hearing their stories in their own voices? Short or long; everyday, funny or memorable happenings; or participants in, or witnesses to, history – an oral history can let us, and our descendants, hear the emotion, passion, humor, and emphasis of these vocal reflections.
